Working with Charities
I have a keen interest and much experience in working with charities over the years. I have been a trustee at my local hospice (The Florence Nightingale Hospice in Aylesbury), trained as a bereavement listener, and assisted a number of charities with their work.
I am also currently leading a project for Remember A Charity on charitable giving in the legal profession. (Please see Not For Profit Consultancy for more details).
I offer support and assistance to charities and other not for profit organisations and Care Homes in a number of ways, including:
- Writing articles and blogs for their websites and newsletters
- Carrying out Q&As, again for their websites and newsletters
- Assisting with Wills campaigns – including being involved at the planning stage
- Giving talks to supporters and staff – seminars, round the table talks and drop in “surgeries”
- Providing general legal support and assistance as and when required

Consultancy
As well as working with and assisting charities and other not for profit organisations, I also provide consultancy services. In the past, this has included advising on plans regarding launching a Wills campaign on behalf of a group of charities, also separately for a single charity.
I am also currently working closely with Remember A Charity, leading their project on charitable giving in the legal profession during the Will writing process.
Remember A Charity is a consortium of over 200 charities whose aim is to change the way that the public and the legal profession think about legacy giving. The aim is to make the concept of leaving legacies to charities in Wills a social norm.
I was first involved with Remember A Charity with their 2015 Wills Awareness Campaign – “Extreme Will Drafting”. I attended the launch of their “Legacy Giving and Behavioural Insights” report which followed research carried out by the University of Bristol`s Behavioural Insights Team at the Law Society in 2016. I was then invited by them to attend a “round table discussion” at the Law Society in 2018 regarding the subject of charitable giving in the Will writing process in the legal profession.
In early 2019, I was asked to lead their project on this subject, which is designed to help increase awareness, particularly in the legal sector, of the question of charitable giving in Wills. Research shows that the more Will writing professionals raise the question of possible charitable giving during the Will writing process, the more clients leave legacies to charities. The project is ongoing and progressing well.
